If you were anticipating an action-packed weekend of Stellar Blade action, then you probably should have known better to be honest. Despite being scheduled to release in 2023, it was pretty clear earlier this year that Korean developer Shift Up’s console debut would take a little longer to launch on PS5. It’s now been included in a list of PS Blog highlights, with a 2024 release window attached.
“Stellar Blade is an action-adventure game making its way to PS5 next year,” the blog post reads. “This hack-‘n’-slash title puts players in control of the stylish heroine Eve, as she takes on the Naytibas, a force ravaging Earth while surviving humans escape to an outer space colony. Stellar Blade combines sharp action with stunning visuals and a mature narrative to create something all new. Players will have to master a balanced offense and defense to survive against hordes of out-of-this-world enemies.”
Despite originally being intended as a multiformat title under the name Project EVE, Sony signed a publishing contract with Shift Up, making this a full-blown PS5 exclusive. We’re fairly confident we’ll see more of the release in the New Year, although the platform holder tends to favour promoting only two or three titles at a time, and its docket is currently full with Rise of the Ronin and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

When was there ever a 2023 release? I dont ever recall the devs talking about any sort of release date until now.

I realised it had been pushed to 2024 when I saw the logo on the reel at the end of my yearly wrap up. This is, unsuprisingly, my most anticipated title.
At this point it’s safe to assume that anything with a 2023 Window that hasn’t been released yet has been delayed till 2024.

Hoping the delay is to add Japaneese or English voices. I can't stand coreean or chineese voices, don't know why. I won't buy any of Sony's China Hero Project games, if they don't have at least Japaneese voices.
If it is indeed Shift Up's console debut, they should take all the time needed to create a wonderful debut console title, as first impressions can have a huge impact. With the help and guidance of Sony, I am sure they will succeed in that regard.
We as gamers just have to be patient, which is understandably difficult when you want to play said game already.
This is just about the most beautiful game I’ve ever seen. Really hope everything else is up to scratch.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Probably my most anticipated PS5 exclusive in the pipeline. It looks great from what we have seen.
No worries, we all have a healthy back log I'm sure, take all the time you need Shift Up. Hopefully it will be worth the wait, if it plays half as good as it looks we are in for a treat

Well considering we only have a couple of days left of 2023, its safe to say its been delayed till next year lol. Still I have plenty to play so not to worried, when it does come I'll be waiting.

@Sil_Am I can tell you the most likely reason... you haven't had much Korean or Chinese language media to acclimatise to so it sounds 'odd' to your ears and because you're a perfectly average human you won't go out of your comfort zone to change that.
@Sil_Am I have yet to play a Korean game so I haven't heard their dubs but I fully agree with Chinese audio being horrible. I'm fully used to Japanese voices but when I tried playing Sword and Fairy Together Forever earlier this year I had to stop after a few hours, Chinese voices are just way too fast and the text was going before I had chance to fully read some sentences especially in cutscenes.
Sony has a lot of exclusives next year probably the most they’re had in any year so far with the ps5.
@CharlieChooChoo Tbf Sony wouldn't of chose this game to publish or show us the original trailer which got people "excited" if they planned to censor it. Also there's no grounds to censor this game especially after they let Nier Automata's 2B show her rear the whole game.

Sony’s censorship policies changed in October 2018, NA came out the year before, so wouldn’t have been impacted. Hopefully they see nothing wrong with this game.
@thefourfoldroot1 Well I don't see a problem as long as the game is age rated correctly, as some have mentioned games like Dead or Alive have some pretty revealing outfits and so do a lot of JRPGs still wether it's their normal outfits or unlockable swimsuits. So I don't see this game being a problem, what was a problem for Sony were the games with sexual minigames and touching mechanics like Senran Kagura, you won't get games like that anymore on Playstation hence why those kind of games have now turned to the Switch for uncensored versions.

DOA Xtreme 3 was censored by Sony, but released unmolested on Switch and Xbox I believe.
And it has nothing to do with age ratings. Sony have their own puritanical ideals, hence games releases fine on all other systems.
I don’t actually think this will be censored though. Not any more than it may already have been. Sony are keen to avoid touching, “upskirting”, and “downblousing”, none of which is on display here.
@UltimateOtaku91 Look at some of the first trailers for this game. I couldn't play it. It takes me out of the experience. I'm so used to Japan language in video games though, I play all jrpgs non dubbed. I find it so good sounding, it's like melody to my ears, very harmonious.

@GigaGaia actually I wouldn't bet on what you said, Sony making moves around Shift up this year tells a lot about how things are going. And it's true the studio isn't theirs but would be the 3rd year in a row that they enter with a big game with no date that ends up releasing in November (if it happens lol )
With the lack of both First and Third party exclusives this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony didn't suggest a 2024 release date so the release schedule dosen't look as empty as this year has been.

@GilgaMax96 well I've been keeping up with this game since it's project eve days amd there's been no solid proof that Sony has censored the game. You could be right, but we won't know until we see the next trailer. Until then please don't be one of those people who make these baseless assumptions
I hope Sony is back to partnering with studios and cultivating positive relationships that ultimately blossom into acquisitions. Having to react to Microsoft's $80B spending spree ruined that strategy a bit, but Sony needs far more Asian studios in their stable.

Yeah both this and Silent Hill 2 Remake were supposed to be 2023 but we ended up seeing neither all year. This one feels like a lot of them other Korean games we see where it looks really cool but just never comes out. Not convinced it's coming in 2024 either

I do love a good hack n slash game and I'm always on the lookout for a PS5 exclusive. Anyone know of any good ones?
I normally play multiplatform hack n slash games on Xbox though because the controller layout feels better for that type of game in my opinion.
Unless Sony can drop that Venom game or another summer surprise, 2P games like and Rise of the Ronin will be vital to keep things ticking over into a more exciting 2025.
Also for anyone who has dubbing concerns I am pretty sure Sony will ensure this has an EN and JP dub to meet the standards of a SIE published game.

For me, the fact that they delayed it into 2024 is not the big deal for me. That goes to them confirming it for next year.

Playing this in Japanese should take you out of the experience lol. They characters are Korean as far as I'm aware so if it's about authenticity, the game should be played in Korean.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think you're just not used to Chinese. I played Wo Long in Chinese because the English was so bad, at one point I switched to Japanese to see if that dub was good and God no, it sounded as bad like the English dub with too much anime type voice acting. The Chinese voice acting meanwhile sounded very natural.
It better be heat, or there will be judgement.
PS5 is underpowered, so the devs need more time to make the game work. /s
